Sasya Shyamala Krishi Vigyan Kendra (SSKVK), RKMVERI organized its second training programme on “Clean Milk Production and Mastitis Management” under the ATMA-funded research project titled “Validation of a Dual-Route Herbal Formulation as a Teat Dip and Oral Immuno modulator to Mitigate Sub-Clinical Mastitis (SCM) in Crossbred Dairy Cows: A Strategy to Combat Anti-Microbial Resistance (AMR)” on 22 September 2026.The programme was attended by 45 local dairy farmers and rural youth, comprising 55% male and 45% female participants, predominantly from Scheduled Caste communities.
Dr. Sarbaswarup Ghosh (PI & SMS, Animal Science) inaugurated the session and set the context, followed by Dr. Swagat Ghosh (Senior Scientist & Head, SSKVK), who highlighted the importance of the project in safeguarding udder health and combating Anti-Microbial Resistance (AMR).
Comprehensive technical lectures were delivered by Dr. Shantanu Bera (Associate Professor, WBUAFS) on the scientific protocols of clean milk production, and by Mr. Biswajit Debsharma (Sundarban Milk Union) on ethno-veterinary formulations and herbal management of mastitis.
A practical demonstration was conducted by Sri Sudhangshu Panda (Project Assistant), providing hands-on training to farmers on using California Mastitis Test (CMT) kits for rapid field detection of Sub-Clinical Mastitis.
The event concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session addressing ground-level challenges in dairy herd health and hygienic milk harvesting.
