International Day for Biological Diversity was observed by Sasya Shyamala Krishi Vigyan Kendra, RKMVERI on 22nd May, 2024. Eighty farmers and farm women and all the staff of the KVK participated in the programme. Dr. Pradip Dey, Director, ICAR-ATARI, Kolkata in his virtual address emphasized on the importance of restoring microbial biodiversity in soil in order to maintain soil health. Dr. N. C. Sahu, Head, Sasya Shyamala Krishi Vigyan Kendra, RKMVERI discussed the backdrop and importance of observation of the day. Dr. Raghunath Mandal, Associate Professor, BCKV, Dr. Shibaji Bhattacharya, Dy. Director (Microbiology), Institute of Animal Health and Veterinary Biologicals, Govt.of WB and Dr. Surya Kanta Sau, Assistant Professor (Fishery Sciences), WBUAFS deliberated on three aspects of biodiversity conservation – crop, animal and fisheries biodiversity. A documentary film on the East Kolkata Wetlands prepared by the KVK was projected for the participants.
