Sasya Shyamala KVK was celebrated “World Soil Day” cum Soil Health Card distribution & Farmers’ Awareness Programme at SSKVK, Arapanch, Sonarpur and Tehuria village, Sonarpur South 24 pgs, West Bengal in collaboration with Reliance Foundation on December 5, 2025.
Dr. Sudipta Tripathi, Assistant Professor, Environmental Disaster Management, RKMVERI inaugurated the programme with lightning of lamp at SSKVK. Dr. Krishnendu Ray, SMS ( Agronomy) gave the welcome address to the participants of the programme and other guests discussed the relevance of the soil health in the context of One Health. Dr. Monidipta Saha discussed the importance of soil health to maintain the agricultural productivity and uses of soil health cards. Dr. Abhijit Ghosal, Dr. Prasenjit Kundu, Dr. Sudeshna Panja and Dr. Anupam Mukherjee addressed different aspects related to improving soil health and agricultural technologies. Dr. Sudipta Tripathi elaborated the history of world soil day celebration and how to manage the problem soils in reference to the poor soil health of coastal soil of South 24 parganas.Total 134 nos. of farmers and farm women were present and 115 nos of Soil Health Card were distributed in the programme. Dr. M Saha and Dr. S Tripathi also visited the nutritional garden developed through an organic approach including Integrated Farming System and interacted with the women farmers at Tihuria village, Sonarpur regarding composting, soil health, nutrition and waste management. During this programme, one drawing competition was organized by the farmers and two farmers were awarded on the topic of “Healthy soil for Healthy Cities” and three women farmers were facilitated due to their contributory role for adopting composting technology and vegetable cultivation practices throughout the scientific way. To popularize and increase the adoption of vermicomposting technology, five vermicomposting poly drums and earthworms were distributed to the farm women.
